If you are unsure about who to vote for in the upcoming Iowa City Community School District (ICCSD) board election, consider waiting until you can see who is supporting and funding each candidates’ election campaign. While early voting may be convenient, the trite phrase every vote counts is true, and even known school board candidates deserve close scrutiny and due diligence. Many school board candidates will file disclosure forms with the Iowa Ethics & Campaign Disclosure Board (IECDB), which can be quite revealing.
Current candidates for the ICCSD board should file updated reports by September 3, 2015. These reports, which are filed just prior to the September 8th election, should include a report of the candidates’ campaign donations “through 10 days prior to election.” Of course, candidates who may fund their own campaigns will not have outside donors to report.
Here is a link to the IECDB State/Local Campaign Disclosure Reports for the current crop of ICCSD board candidates. This link also will provide information about past ICCSD board candidates’ campaign donors. If this information is of interest to you, please remember to check the link on or after September 3rd and prior to voting for up-to-date information since the current candidates are unlikely to report donations prior to this time.
